Player ratings - Millwall 0-1 Luton Town

Millwall on the attack

Finally! Luton gained their first win since the 6th of April with a hard fought but deserved victory over Millwall. Despite Lions’ manager Neil Harris’s protestations, Luton did deserve the win, although it wasn’t pretty at times. The Hatters were able to dig deep and defend tightly, with most of Millwall’s chances coming from unforced errors from Luton players.

Luton started on top, and within 10 minutes they had taken the lead with Mengi curling in a spectacular finish from outside the box after being neatly set up by Walsh. The Hatters continued their dominance afterwards, with Chong hitting the post, but Millwall finished the half strongly. The second half wasn’t as end to end, although Millwall had the better chances, Luton were compact and did enough to hold on. The Town have easier games coming up, so Rob Edwards’s side will be hoping to build some momentum and pick up more wins.

Kaminski - 8

The Belgian international was back to his best, with an amazing save to deny Langstaff in a 1v1. He also made a solid stop in the dying seconds to deny Millwall from a corner.

Doughty - 7

Alfie has been playing good enough the last few games, despite the defeats, and he continued to improve on his performances with a solid outing as a right wing back today. Him playing on the right allows him to cut into midfield more on his left foot.

Burke - 8 (Man of the Match)

It’s going to be hard to drop Burke from the team if he plays like he did against Millwall, he was first to everything. Deservedly won the Sky Sports man of the match as well.

McGuiness - 7

Mistimed one or two tackles, but organised the defence well and was good in the air.

Mengi - 6

Scored a superbly executed goal, but was still quite rash on the ball, giving it away which lead to Millwall’s last corner in the dying seconds.

Bell - 6

A solid, if unspectacular performance from the Luton captain. His versatility in being able to play multiple positions is very useful.

Nakamba - 6

It is good to have Nakamba back in the team, even if he wasn’t too involved, he makes us much more solid defensively. The pairing of him and Walsh worked well for most of the first half. Was taken off early as he is just coming back from a long term injury.

Walsh - 7

Started the game very brightly, and became more tenacious and aggressive in the second half. Mistimed a few challenges and gave away a free kick in a bad area, but it is nice to see a player with a bit of fight in them, has similar qualities to Allan Campbell, except much better on the ball. Got an assist for the goal too.

Clark - 6

Dropped into midfield a few times and combined well, but wasn’t that effective throughout the game.

Adebayo - 5

Another quiet and frustrating afternoon for Elijah, with Tanganga getting the better of him throughout. He is obviously short on confidence, when the first goal comes, Adebayo will get stronger.

Chong - 7

Was Luton’s most dangerous attacking threat, driving through the middle on several occasions. Unlucky not to score after his shot hit the post.
