Rob Edwards, thank you.

The club confirmed yesterday that Rob Edwards has left the club by mutual consent.

17th November 2022, an unimaginable journey started with Robert Edwards joining The Hatters after Nathan Jones left us for a second time. Edwards, having been sacked from our rivals a couple of months beforehand, was an interesting appointment for Gary and the board to make, but what a brilliant decision it turned out to be.

Having missed out on promotion to the Premier League via the play-offs that year, Jones left us in a healthy position, although not many of us believed whoever the replacement may be could go one better. Even though Jones obviously suited us and got us to an incredibly healthy position, the shift to a calm, calculated and measured management style under Edwards was a breath of fresh air. The football continued to get better throughout the season, the trust in Edwards was building, and the players looked as if they were ecstatic to be at the club.

Welcoming the ‘big boys’ of global football to Kenilworth Road only 9 years after saying goodbye to the likes of Histon, Braintree and Nuneaton, was unbelievable, and yet he made that dream come true. For most of us, I’m sure the moment we won that penalty shootout against Coventry will forever be one of the best of our lives. Rob gave us that moment.

During the last two years, however rocky this 24-25 campaign has been, he gave us a club and team to be incredibly proud of. Nobody will forget the resilience we showed in each performance during our first ever Premier League season, nor will they forget the love and emotion that Rob showed for this club. From getting one over against his old employers at Kenilworth Road, to the leadership, strength and emotion shown after both of the incidents Tom Lockyer faced. From giving each one of the big boys a horrible time at KR, to another thrashing of that yellow lot recently. In the same way we owe the start of the last 11 years of success to John Still, we owe these last two years to Rob Edwards.

Since the announcement came through, most of the players have posted on their socials thanking Rob, showing what he meant to them as well as us. I believe this shows who he is as a manager, yes this campaign hasn’t gone to plan and none of us wanted it to come to this, but the love given by us the fans, the club and the players, point to how privileged we were to have him at Kenilworth Road.

I hope that he will look back on these times at the club and feel immensely proud of where he took us and the memories he was able to give us.

‘Til the stars don’t shine’

Thank you for everything.
